The Cigar Box

DCFCU began as Florida was climbing out of the Great Depression and the world was about to again go to war. On April 13, 1939, a group of 10 Dade County employees met, pooled $135 in an old cigar box, and signed a “certificate of origination” to form a credit union for their fellow employees. Dade County Employees Credit Union was born.

We have had the honor to replicate the old cigar box, the project included a full restoration of the original “Certificate Of Origination” and the reproduction of the exact money notes/bill in the original cigar box.
The replicated boxes are displayed in DCFCU branches across South Florida.

Commemorative Videos

The world has changed a great deal since DCFCU 1st opened their doors on May 1, 1939. We created a series of videos taking the viewers back in time to look at the major changes from DCFCU’s inception until today.
This is the 1st installment in our video series to commemorate our 75 years of serving Miami-Dade County showcasing the early years in DCFCU’s history 1939-1969.
